Last week the golf team participated in the Rocky View League Championship. They will participate, this week, in the zone championship at Strathmore. Best of luck to all team members and Coach Wilson.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SEASON OPENER
Due to installation issues we were not able to open our season, Friday, under the lights. We are hoping that this Friday’s home game, against Springbank will be under the lights at 7:00. The installation crews are working hard to get everything done in time for Friday’s tilt against the tough Phoenix. Check the web-site, later in the week to confirm game time.
FOOTBALL SEASON OPENER
On Friday the Cowboys opened the season with a tough 7-0 loss to Bow Valley. The defense was outstanding, giving up only an opening scoring drive and shutting out the Bobcats the rest of the way. The defense forced 5 turnovers. The offense moved the ball but could not punch it in getting inside the ten several times. A late Cowboys’ touchdown was nullified due to an off-side penalty. While pleased with most of the effort the team was disappointed in losing a game they expected to win. There were many positives in the game, especially considering this is a team with only four players.
COWBOYS AT STRATHMORE
On Tuesday the Cowboys travel to Strathmore to play the Spartans in an exhibition game. Game time is at 5:00. This is a great opportunity to get all players some experience and help prepare the team for the league game on Friday with Springbank.
VARSITY GIRL’S VOLLEYBALL
The Varsity volleyball team opened their league season with a 3-0 sweep of the WG Murdoch Trojans, 25-8, 25-18, and 25-19. On the weekend the team competed in a tournament at the University of Calgary. The competition was very strong as they played against all the top school from Calgary. The girls played very well and battled hard throughout the entire weekend. They beat Lord Beaverbrook to advance to the consolation semi-finals. They came up against the St. Francis Browns and although lost they put up a strong effort. The girls then won their final match of the tournament placing them 3rd on the consolation side. Lots of good volleyball was played over the weekend and the team looks to continue playing well this week with a game against Bert Church on Wednesday at CHS at 5:30.
VARSITY BOY’S VOLLEYBALL
The Varsity boys also had a strong start to their season defeating Springbank 25-12, 25-21 and 27-25. The boys look strong again this year after capturing the zone championship last year. This weekend the team will get a major test as they compete in the University of Calgary Dinos Tournament. This Wednesday the boys have a league bye but will play an exhibition game in the small gym at 5:30.
JV GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
In their first outing of the year the JV Girls had a strong performance finishing second at the Strathmore Tournament. The team opens their league season this Wednesday, at home against Bert Church. Game time is 5:3 0.
GIRL’S SOCCER
This year the varsity girls team is in a rebuilding phase. We had a tough loss in the opening game but managed to score three goals. Felicia Kane and Amy Krusina provided the scoring punch. We look forward to a great season and improved play from the team. The girls have a busy schedule this week with home game on Tuesday and Wednesday and a road tri[p to Airdrie on Thursday. All games are at4:45.
CROSS COUNTRY
Practices for the cross country team will take place this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. See Head Coach Ms. Mahaffey for more information.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- LINDSAY DUGDALE
Lindsay Dugdale is returning as the Varsity Girl’s sweeper and has assumed the role of Co-Captain. She shows great leadership and had a great opening game last week. Coaches Everson and Penner are looking for big things from her this season. Congratulations on your Athlete of the Week selection.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- JESSE SEDDON
Congratulations to second year Cowboy, Jesse Seddon, this week’s Athlete of the Week recipient. Jesse made a valuable contribution in the Cowboys’ opener. He made several key plays, as a running back on offense and delivered several crushing tackles on defense. A lot is expected from this young athlete this season.
