(UN)Completion of East Chestermere Drive

It’s nice to see the curbs put in, and the widening of most parts of the road on East Chestermere Drive, but unfortunately, the street lights and bike paths were not completed.
There are street lights at the end of East Chestermere Drive where the new houses are going up,before Camp Chestermere and on East Kinniburgh, and the roads were already excavated, so it wouldn’t have cost that much more to put street lights on. When pedestrians walk their dog, or bicyclists are riding at night, the danger is doubly increased with the lack of a bike path, and with no street lights,at most of East Chestermere Drive. I feel it is unacceptable for people to have to put there high beams on, when driving, to see where they driving, because the street is pitch black in that area.
Many people do not want street lights, I was told. However, the demographics have changed tremendously in this area, with much more younger children living in this concerned area. I’m sure nothing will be done about my concerns until someone else’s child gets killed. I talked to a long term resident a few years ago, and he told me that the reason the speed limit was reduced from 50 km to 40 km, was because one of the two girls walking at night in the concerned area was killed, and the other one was seriously injured.

Yours sincerely,
Alan Lee
