Looking for summer activities and a way to express your creative side? This summer the Town of Chestermere Community Services is launching an arts pilot program called Ceramix. Ceramix is a clay bisque painting program with classes for a variety of age groups including kids, youth, and seniors. Along with registered classes, there are also drop-in dates available at Town Hall for all residents. Community Services has partnered with 4 Cats Art Studio in Inglewood who will be firing the final products.
“Summer is a great time for people to get involved in these types of programs, as they require minimal commitment, and, seeing as we offer a variety of dates, they can easily fit into vacation schedules,” says program facilitator, Lindsay Bec. “It is also a great way to meet people with similar interests or to come together in a relaxed atmosphere with friends and family,” she adds.
This is the first program of its kind offered by Community Services in an effort to increase the number of arts programs available to residents. “As the community grows we want to make sure that the programs we offer can be accessed by a variety of people and that they meet their needs,” says Bec. “The response that we get from our participants helps us to shape current and future programs.”
Ceramics have recently become a popular business venture in Calgary with many “paint your own pottery” studios being established throughout the city. With this program, residents will be able to take part in this activity in their own community without having to commute to Calgary. Ceramix is open to all skill levels. All that is required is imagination and a bit of creativity!
