VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL HOST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The Chestermere Lakers Varsity Girls’ competed in their divisional semi-finals against George McDougall this past week. The Lakers played in dominating fashion winning the match in 3 straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, and 25-20. The team played the best volleyball of the season and look to continue their success this week in the Divisional Championship Finals against Springbank on Wednesday, November 7th . Game time is 6:00. Come out and support our Varsity Girls’ as they attempt to bring home the gold.

Chestermere High Cowboys 2012
COWBOYS FOOTBALL FINISHES SEASON
This past Friday the Cowboys completed their season with a tough 12-8 loss to the Bert Church Chargers, in the Rocky View Tier 2 Third Place game. It was a low scoring affair with the Cowboys giving up two 2 point safeties. The defense from both teams were ready to play and made it tough on the opposing offense. In the 3rd quarter, on a bubble screen Brent Wileman took it to the house on a Brad Taubert pass. Using a great block from fullback Gavin Hamilton, Wileman raced 62 yards for the major and a Cowboy lead. It looked like the score would hold up for the Cowboy victory, but the Chargers scored late in the game. With less than two minutes left the Cowboys had to drive the length of the field. A 40 yard Taubert to Jesse Seddon pass, with less than a minute to play, made it interesting but the Cowboys were not able to get into the end zone to secure the win. The game was an entertaining one and a tough one to lose. It was a tough way for the 19 Cowboys seniors to end their high school careers. They can be proud as they put in an excellent effort.

JV GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Lakers had their best game all season this past Monday, according to Coach Hargrove. The team was firing on all cylinders, and the girls did not let up and played a solid and complete game o beating George Mac in three straight sets. The JV girls were loud and excited, but focused and driven. Coach Hargrove is proud of how they played in the quarter-final s. The win put the team into the semi-finals against the top ranked squad from Springbank.
They put up a valiant effort in the first 2 sets against the Phoenix, but had a rough last set, where the Phoenix team pulled away and secured the victory. Hopefully this loss drives the girls to push harder at practice for the next few weeks and get ready for zones, where they have the possibility of playing Springbank, yet again.

JV BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Lakers played their quarter -finals this Monday at Bert Church in Airdrie, and it was a nail biter! Winning the first set 29-27, losing the second and third with equally close scores they came back in the fourth set with a big win 25-14. The tie breaking fifth match didn’t go as planned, and the boys lost with a score of 15-7 to end the league season. The JV Boys will continue to practice and work hard towards zones on November 16-17 Okotoks.

VARSITY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
In quarter-final playoffs, last week the Varsity Boys’ lost and ended their quest for a repeat of last year’s league title. Their season is now over as they will not be attending zones. Thanks to alumnus, Coach Theresa Wood, for her continued contribution to our vollerball program.

Shantelle played extremely well in the Lakers ‘semi-final match against George McDougall last week powering the team to a 3-0 victory. She has stepped up to be one of the leaders and go to players on the team and looks to continue her success in this week’s Divisional Finals and the Zone Championships coming up next weekend[/box] [box]
JV BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- MITCHELL MARJORAM
This is Mitch’s first year on the volleyball team and he has done an amazing job, according to Coach Mogck. With his positive attitude, and leadership, he leads the boys to success. His “mad hops” allows him hang time to hit the ball hard and block boys much taller than he is. Keep up the great work Mitch![/box] [box] Justin Aldoff
VARSITY BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK-JUSTIN ALDOFF
Senior center, Justin Aldoff, showed his heart, toughness and commitment, in the playoff game last Friday. With a back injury from the Cochrane game, Justin showed his true character as he played well, despite his painful injury. Justin has always showed that he has the heart of a champion and is an inspirational player.[/box]
