ATHLETICS’ WEB-SITE
Check out our web-site. We are adding information to it each week. And should be fully updated by January.

VARSITY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL STAY UNDEFEATED
The Lady Lakers continued their winning ways this week by downing a scrappy Bert Church Chargers squad 73-53 . Down by 12 early , the girls had to work hard to come back from this deficit. The team was led by Aimee Wilson with 24 points. Yasmene Saghir added 15 points and 9 rebounds. A commitment to playing tough defense has resulted in the girls earning a 9-0 record and a #3 provincial ranking.

LADY LAKERS HEADING TO SAN DIEGO
The Lady Lakers are off to San Diego on December 26 to participate in a tournament and two JV games. Ten members of the Varsity Team will be joined by 3 members of the JV team. This will be a huge challenge for all of the girls. We will play a total of 5 games, watch an NCAA game, do some sight-seeing and spend one day at Disneyland. As well, I am sure that we will find time for the girls to do some shopping. It will be a great six days of basketball and off-court activities. We hope that the experience will make our team closer and tougher.

VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL
The Lakers took on Bert Church in their last league game before the Christmas break. Fuelled by a strong transition game and pressure defence the Lakers finished with a 77-51 win. The Lakers were lead by Riley Lenci with 18 points followed by Yuvi Hundal with 14 points. Vinny Jawanda and Charn Gill both added 13 points to the victory. The Lakers head into the Christmas break with a positive outlook on the first part of the season.

JV BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The JV Lakers played their final game before the Christmas break on Wednesday when they took on the Bert Church Chargers ,on their home court. The Lakers started out strong commanding an early lead that they held on to post a  72-46 victory. It was a hard fought win for the Lakers,; scoring was led by Jeff Rodehustkors with  20 points 12 rebounds and Jag Gill with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Lakers sit atop of the league with a 3-0 record. The Lakers are off now until the new year.

JV GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The JV Lady Lakers closed out their pre-Christmas schedule with a busy week of basketball last week.
On Tuesday December 18, the team visited Airdrie to take on the always-tough Bert Church Chargers.
It was a low-scoring tilt early on, with both teams struggling offensively. The Chargers came out strong in the second quarter and used the momentum to jump out to a 16-4 lead with four minutes
remaining in the first half. But the Lady Lakers’ tenacious defense began to take over and the girls from Chestermere went on a spectacular 16-4 run of their own. Natalie Russell’s jumper with no time left on the clock tied the game as both teams headed for the half-time break. The second half was much like the first but this time the Lady Lakers fell short with their comeback attempt and walked off the court after a hard-fought 47-39 loss.On Wednesday, the squad had their last practice before the Holidays and had a fun-filled team party as part of the preparation for the game vs. Beiseker on Thursday. The team looks forward to the break from basketball but are excited to get back on the court early in the New Year.

[box]GIRLS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK-NATALIE RUSSELL
Natalie Russell has matured into a valuable player for the JV Lady Lakers. She has a passion for the game and a strong work ethic. As  team captain, she has helped her team to an impressive 7 and 3 record at the holidaybreak. Look for more exciting things to come from this hard-working athlete in the second half of the season.[/box] [box] BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -JAG GILL
Jag has started his final JV year off strong and fast , leading the team in scoring and top two in rebounds and assists.  Jag leads by example and demands the best out of his teammates on every single night. Jag’s strong determination, hard work and leadership will be a key to the team’s future success. [/box]
