VARSITY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Lakers had their first bye week of two, last week. Although they did not have a league game, the team played in the annual Lester B. Pearson tournament in Calgary. The team finished with a 3-2 record after pool play, putting them in a 3 way tie for 2nd place. The tie-breaking rules worked in their favour, and the Lakers found themselves advancing directly into the semi-finals. The boys had their best performance of the year in the semi, passing well and eventually defeating Father Lacombe. The final was a different story.. The Lakers struggled with passing, and, ultimately lost to a stronger St. Mary’s team. Overall, the team played well, and can celebrate the success of getting to a tournament championship game.
COWBOYS FOOTBALL
The Cowboys travelled to Airdrie this past Friday for the league semi- final playoffs. A scoreless half was broken with 23 second left in the first half, when Brad Taubert intercepted a Mustangs pass and took it 67 yards for a Cowboy major and a 7-0 half-time lead. A couple of bad penalties and a key turnover made things tough for the Cowboys. We were not able to handle the Mustangs’ inside running game and they took over the game. A Brad Taubert touchdown pass to Jesse Seddon made it a bit closer but the team gave up two late touchdowns and lost 44-15. A disappointing result. This week the Cowboys have an exhibition JV game with Pincher Creek and a consolation game with Cochrane on Saturday at Cochrane. On Friday, November 2 at 6:00, the Cowboys close out their season hosting the league Tier 2 Bronze Medal Game against the Bert Church Chargers.

BRAD TAUBERT CTV ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
This Friday, October 26 Brad Taubert will be featured on CTV’s Athlete of the Week segment on the 6:00 news. Brad has been having a standout season in his senior year. He runs the offense as the quarterback and plays safety on defense. As well, he plays on most of the special teams. Congratulations, Brad!

VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Varsity Girls’ beat W.G. Murdoch 3 – 0 last Wednesday. As a result we are in second place overall in the division.
The girls finished third in the High River tournament, losing the semi-finals to George McDougall. Overall it was a good tournament, where we only lost two out of eight matches, against Eagle Butte on Friday night and George Mac in the semi-final.
Coach Mogck

COACH MOGCK
Our JV Boys volleyball coach, Kendra Mogck is also an up and coming boxer. Two weeks ago she won a bout that took her record to 63-1. Her only loss was to a girl in a higher weight class. Congratulations to Coach Mogck and best of luck in your boxing career. Ms. Mogck is in her first year teaching at Chestermere.

LADY LAKERS BOTTLE DRIVE

SENIOR BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- TRYSTEN TANNER
Trysten was named to the Tournament All-star team for the Lakers this past weekend. He was the most consistent player for the team, passing well, playing great defense, and continuing to be aggressive on the attack. Trysten was a key part in the Lakers success of reaching the final against St. Mary’s. Although the team came up short, he continued to be a defensive marvel, and helped the Lakers keep the game close.[/box]
