This will be an exciting week for our Varsity Girls volleyball team as they head to the AAA Provincial Championships in Camrose, as South Central Zone Champions.

VARSITY GIRLS’ EARN GOLD AT ZONES
The Senior Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team won the South Central Zone 3A Girls’ Volleyball Championship, this past weekend in High River. . This was the first Zone Championship for Chestermere in 10 years. The Lady Lakers went undefeated the entire tournament. In Pool B play, only Strathmore took the team to three games. In the Semi-Final match, Chestermere played Highwood High from High River, defeating them in two games. In the Championship Match, the Lady Lakers were up against league rival George McDougall. They lost the first game 24 – 26. In the second game, through a hard fought battle, down 19 – 22, the team rallied, to win 25 – 23. In the final game, with a strong defense and a solid attack, the Lady Lakers won 15 – 9. The girls showed remarkable resilience in coming from behind to win the South Central Zone Championship. The Lady Lakers are off to the AAA Provincial Championship, in Camrose, this upcoming weekend. Good luck to the team. We are proud of you.

JV BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
The JV Boys’ volleyball team completed their season, this past weekend at the South Central Zone Championship in Okotoks at Holy Trinity. Although they did not win any matches the experience was good for this young group of athletes. Thanks to Coach Mogck for coaching the team.

JV GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Coach Howie Leong will be taking his JV basketball team to a tournament this weekend in Okotoks at HTA. This early start will give the team some valuable experience in preparation for the tough high school season.

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS
All four of our basketball teams have concluded their tryouts. All of our teams will be competitive and look forward to the start of their seasons, in the next two weeks. More details next week and in weeks to come.

COWBOYS FOOTBALL BANQUET
The Cowboys will have their season ending awards banquet on Thursday, November 15 at the high school. Each player will be presented with their team picture, awards will be given out and there will be a special presentation to the seniors. As well, we will enjoy a video highlight film. All players and their families are invited. Team liason, Lorie Potter, will be sending more information by e-mail.

COWBOYS HOST LEAGUE BANQUET
The Cowboys will be hosting this years Rocky View Football League Awards Banquet. The event will take place on Monday, November 26 at 6:30 in the Wilson Gym. 231 tickets have been sold for this event. This is a great event and we look forward to hosting the other teams in the division.

This week’s,”Athlete of the Week” goes to the entire Varsity Girls’ volleyball team. The Lady Lakers showed a great deal of heart and determination, in coming from behind to post a win at the Zone Championships and a berth in the Provincial Championships in Camrose. This is only the 5th appearance for our girls in Provincials in the history of the school. Well done ladies and best of luck. GO LAKERS!!![/box]
