COWBOYS FOOTBALL POSTS 4th CONSECUTIVE VICTORY
The Cowboys had another great week of football shutting out Strathmore 20-0 and Cranbrook 33-0 in exhibition games. This past Saturday the Cowboys used all players in the victory over Cranbrook. Touchdowns were scored by Andrew Killoran, Mike Lucyshyn, Brent Wileman and two by Brad Taubert. Lucysyshyn added two field goals. The defense had another great outing. This marked the team’s 4th consecutive victory. On Thursday the Cowboys host the first place, and always tough, Cochrane Cobras. Game time is 7:00 PM.

VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Senior Girls’ Volleyball team had a successful week. On Wednesday, the Lady Lakers beat George McDougall 3 – 0 in league action. On the weekend, the team participated in the Griffin Tournament at Ernest Manning High School. In their first game, the Lady Lakers competed against St. Paul from northern Edmonton. The team won the first game, and St. Paul team won the second game of the two game round. Because of points, St. Paul won the match. Chestermere played Central Memorial and Highwood High to wrap up the first round. The Lady Lakers did not give up a game with the two teams. The result was 4th place in a 12 team competition. In the playoffs, the team first faced Lillian Osborne in which the Lady Lakers won in 2 games. In the semi-finals the team faced St. Francis; Chestermere won in 2. In the gold medal round, it was a rematch between St. Paul and the Lady Lakers. The team played valiantly but lost in 2.  The Lady Lakers finished with the silver medal. Kayla Nixon won the team’s Heart and Hustle plaque and Shantelle Jonassen won the team M.V.P. Plaque. Next up for the Lady Lakers – Bow Valley on Wednesday in Cochrane and  a 40 school, three tier tournament in Kelowna on the weekend. Best of luck to the team on the weekend

VARSITY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Sr. Boys Volleyball team battled against the George McDougall Mustangs this past Wednesday. Although the Lakers lost in 4 games, it was close, and were only a few points away from going to a 5th set. Middles Drake Bruney and Craig Douthwright were key players, helping shut down the big hitters from the Mustangs. The Boys also played in the Ernest Manning Invitational Tournament on the weekend. They finished the weekend with a winning record of 3-2, taking the ‘B’ side Championship. Drake Bruney was named Team MVP, and Tristan Turner was presented the team Hustle and Heart Award. This week, the Lakers take on Bow Valley, 5:30pm at home.

JV BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Boys Junior Varsity team has been at it for 3 weeks, and many improvements have been made. Although we have not yet won a game, we are working hard and improving every week! In light of recent injuries, the team has banded together and are looking stronger than ever. Next week’s home game vs Bow Valley is shaping up to be exciting! Game time 7:00 pm!

JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
On Wednesday the girls played the Mustangs from George McDougall. With some very tough serving the JV’s were able to beat the Mustangs in 3 straight sets. It was a very hard fought game, and great to see the girls come back so strong after a loss from the week before.

This weekend was a great first tournament for the JV girls. Every game was very hard fought and more exciting than the previous match as the tournament went on. The girls won both games on Friday against Bert Church and Strathmore, both matches going to 3 sets. On Saturday morning the girls came out very strong right away and won both the morning matches as well against Canmore and Strathcona Tweedsmuir in 2 straight matches. We finished 1st place in our pool and had a bye to semi-finals where the girls unfortunately lost to a very tough Three Hills squad. The young Lakers definitely made a name for themselves and played some very good volleyball over the whole weekend. The JV’s were more than competitive with all our competition over the weekend and never gave up at any point, this ultimately led to the success we had.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
The Lady Lakers’ soccer team had another great week . The Lakers posted two wins over Springbank last week. The team posted a 6-1 win in league play with goals by Natasha Gayle, Anja Meier, Shalaine Sedres and Amy Krusina. On Thursday the girls had to work hard to post a 2-1 shootout victory. Best of luck in semi-final playoff on Tuesday.
