CHESTERMERE – It seems it’s never too early to start learning a new skill and this looks like the philosophy for the children enrolled in the Little Acorns Fine Arts Pre-School program. November is music month at the Little Acorns Fine Arts Pre-School and some students from the Chestermere High School music class brought their instruments and show the preschoolers about their melodic implements. On November 15th, there were 4 students who came to the pre-school, Dimitrije Lyaljevic, Courtney Gautreau, Shelby Taubert and (Angelia) Tien Nguyen and all of them have been playing various wind instrument for a number of years. After a short introduction the students each took their turn in describing the instrument they brought, what it was made of and most importantly, what it sounded like. Each of the students played a short song to demonstrate how the instrument sounded on its own. The children took it all in and then got their chance at playing with the keys while the students blew into them.
Little Acorns owner Marilyn King said, “This is the sixth year that students from the High School have visited with instruments and I am very grateful to Lael Johnston, the band master and music teacher, for helping to organize it”.
The Little Acorns Preschool opened in April 2002 and they are looking forward to celebrating their 10th anniversary this spring. King added, “It is always a treat to see our little ones interacting with the teenagers and maybe we are sowing some seeds for future musicians”.
The Little Acorns have other special arts events throughout the year and the pre-schoolers put on two concerts for the parents just before Christmas (December 19th and 20th) as well, a concert in the spring.
PS: They are hoping to connect with as many of their former “little acorns” as possible to find out where they are now and would love to collect recent photos of them.
