CHESTERMERE – The Chestermere United FC outdoor soccer season is already just around the corner, with practices beginning in April. After a successful indoor season with multiple teams topping the charts in the playoffs, players and coaches alike are ready to get going for another season.

Chestermere United FC teams play in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association league until August, and offer programs from U-10 to U-18 players.

Technical director Dave Clarke said that Chestermere UFC is open to soccer players of any skill level, whether they are brand new or returning to the sport.

“We have Grassroots to Advanced programs for boys and girls, ages U10 to U18 and we welcome players of all abilities,” he said. “We do not limit the number of players per team, and player program level will be determined after player evaluations.

“Our primary focus is enjoyment and player development.”

Clarke said that the Chestermere United FC believes that coach education is vital to the growth and development of their athletes, which is why all existing coaches have a minimum NCCP certification as well as CPIC clearance. They are also required to take the CMSA Respect in Soccer course. In addition, all coaches are encouraged to attain higher levels of
training both Provincially and Nationally.

Besides the junior programs, there is also a Recreational Soccer (House League) program for
Kids ages 3 to 12 that is available through the Chestermere Rec Centre. It runs from April 30 until June 24. Chestermere United FC will be involved with coaching for this program as well.

The group is also considering putting together a men’s and women’s co-ed soccer program. Anyone who is interested is asked to contact Dave.

Training will be at Chestermere, High School Fields with CMSA league games played at facilities in and around Calgary. Two training sessions are held each week for every team in each age group.

U-10 teams train for one hour each session and U12 and up train for one-and-a-half hour sessions. Each team may have extra sessions if required. Training format is predominantly small sided games,
Skill and technique activities as well as speed, agility and quickness sessions.
“Chestermere United FC is a very proactive club and actively pursues the best practices for all aspects of the game, including player skills, tactics and injury prevention techniques,” Clarke said.
