CHESTERMERE – This year, National Volunteer Appreciation week is from April 15 to 21, and the town of Chestermere is celebrating by selecting the volunteers of the year, as well as hosting a family breakfast.
Chestermere Community Services has celebrated the week in previous years, but for 2012 they decided to create an award for outstanding volunteers in the community. The nomination period has ended, and 13 outstanding volunteers have been nominated.
Those who have been chosen as the volunteers of the year will be revealed at the family breakfast event on April 21. The event will run from 9 a.m. until noon at town hall, and there will be a pancake breakfast, face painting, tons of door prizes and other activities.
Community resource coordinator Angela Normand said that the event will be a great opportunity to recognize everyone who volunteers in the community, not just the nominees.
“Volunteers are parents who help out at school, are on school council or help with hot lunch, or anyone who help out with sports teams or clubs,” she said. “A lot of people don’t realize that doing little things means you’re a volunteer.
“This Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast is for anyone who volunteers their time in Chestermere and southeast Rocky View,” she said. “It is an event for everyone, so bring your whole family.”
