The “Rag Comfort Quilt” was created by a small group of ladies from The Chestermere Whitecappers Association. A “Learn How to Make a Rag Quilt” class was held at the Whitecappers with the ladies meeting once a week to create a unique pattern for each quilt. The first class began in January of 2012. To date there have been seven quilts made. The ladies raffled a quilt at the “Spring Connection” to raise funds to purchase fabric and supplies for additional quilts. It has been a great time of socializing as well as rewarding to know they will be helping someone in need in our community. The sewing machines and quilting supplies were purchased for the “Life Begins at 50 Expo”.
The ladies wish to donate their rag comfort quilts to the Chestermere RCMP who will in turn pass them on to the Strathmore Regional Victims Services Society. The Victim Services Unit will provide the rag comfort quilts to Chestermere children who have been involved in traumatic situations as a means to comfort them. It is the hope and desire of the involved ladies of the Chestermere Whitecappers, that any child who receives a rag comfort quilt will have a feeling of warmth, security and love during a time of trauma and crisis.
