Comedy night to raise funds for CHS

Fundraiser will benefit high school programs and projects

CHESTERMERE – In order to fund for new programs and projects, the Chestermere High School council depends solely on profits from their hot lunch program.

The hot lunch program brings in different kinds of lunch options to the school, one day per week.

However, hot lunch profits don’t roll in at the high school level as they do at local elementary schools or at the middle school, as many of the students are able to drive, and leave campus during the lunch hour.
The high school also saw a major decline in sales when the Grade 9 students were transferred back to Chestermere Lake Middle School, since those students were not of age to drive were some of the best customers for the hot lunch program.

So, because of lower profits from the CHS hot lunch program, the school council is trying to come up with new ways to fundraise in order to help special projects that would be beneficial to CHS students.

These projects would help to put Chestermere High School on the “leading edge” of providing new educational opportunities to those in senior high school. The projects would give students an advantage as they move into post-secondary education, and possibly spike the interest of students who may not have considered continuing in post-secondary education.

Some of the projects include putting together an industrial arts digital design studio, a fashion design studio, and expansion to the current culinary arts program, drafting programs, and an auto and body shop.
The high school is also looking to expand their fine arts program, and purchase heart monitors for their physical education department.

In order to kickstart some fundraising to get them closer to these projects, the school council has organized a comedy night. It will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Chestermere Recreation Centre. The evening will feature the comedy of “Kaboom…Hooray!” as well as live music by local duo Gypsy and the Rose. There will also be a silent auction and cash bar.

Tickets to the event are $20, which includes one ticket for the door prize draw and a free drink. This event is not open to minors.

Tickets can be purchased at the office at Chestermere High School, or by contacting Denica at 403-861-1355 (edkapty@shaw.ca), or Janet at 403-807-7855.
