Country Fair Baking – Win a Prize

Have your family or friends ever told you that your homemade cookies are the best they have ever tasted? Did they suggest that you enter the local Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Competition to see that they were right – that your cookies deserve first prize?
That is just how I got started entering the Home Cooking Section at Fall Fairs to see how my baking and preserves compared to the entries of other competitors.
Now is the perfect opportunity for you to do so. It is very easy. Just use your favourite cookie recipe, using Robin Hood Flour. Submit a four cookie entry along with your recipe and proof of purchase of Robin Hood Flour to the Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Competition on Friday September 7, 2012 between 11am and 6pm at the Chestermere Curling Rink.
Here are a few inside tricks about entering – choose four cookies that are similar in size, shape and with an evenly baked colour.
Below is my winning recipe for the Robin Hood Best Homemade Cookies at the Chestermere Country Fair 2011. For this first prize I got two ribbons and gift certificates to buy more cookie ingredients!

Cranberry Cookies

1cup granulated sugar
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 egg
2 ½ cups Robin Hood flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups coarsely chopped fresh or frozen cranberries ( I use 1 cup of dried fruit)
½ chopped nuts ( optional )

Heat oven to 350F
In large bowl, beat sugars, butter, orange peel and juice and egg.
Stir in flour, baking soda and salt.
Stir in cranberries / nuts.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoons on cookie sheet.
I use silicone baking sheets or you can spray your pans.
Bake 14 to 15 minutes or until edges and bottoms are golden brown.
Cool completely.

So, come on family and friends, encourage that great cookie baker to enter Baking: Class108 Robin Hood Cookies in the Red Ribbon Competition at Chestermere Country Fair 2012.
Or if the ‘baker’ in your home prefers to make pies, or muffins, or tarts, bread or cakes, there are other National Baking prizes available in many categories which require you to use other national well-known brands. Please pick up a copy of the entry book and schedule. Best of luck with your family’s Robin Hood, Fleishmann’s, Bernardin, Certo, Crisco, Tenderflake, Mazola, or Beehive, entry. Though there are National baking competitions in the Kids section, children and youth can enter ANY of these adult Baking categories.
