Attendees enjoyed a catered dinner along with complimentary wine donated by Corrinne Watson. There were also various raffles and games to participate in, in addition to the silent and live auctions.
There were over 100 items to bid on in the silent auction, including jewelry, art prints, decorative items and Ducks Unlimited merchandise.
The live auction, hosted by auctioneer Cody Hayes, saw various vacation packages, sculptures and other prizes go up for bid. The two biggest ticket items were a shopping spree trip to Chicago and Invisalign braces, which were donated by Jed Snatic of Lifepath Wellness.
Steve Best, chair of the Chestermere chapter, said that he and the other local volunteers were happy to see the community come out and support the fundraiser for another year.
“Our number actually went up this year, we had around 125 last year and about 150 this year which was great to see,” he said. “There were a lot of new faces in the crowd but just as much enthusiasm as ever.
“I heard lots of positive comments.”
Best said that he would like to thank everyone who attended, the volunteers, as well as all of the sponsors who helped put on the event.
“We’re always looking for new volunteers for the local chapter to help the event go on every year,” he said. “We have a bit of a high turnover rate for our group, so we’re always looking for new people.”
The local group meets about five or six time per year and work hard to plan the yearly banquet. He said that volunteering for DU is rewarding because you get to see where the funds go, and how they benefit saving wetlands.
The total amount raised from the fundraiser was not available for press time.
