DOUBLE-HEADER, TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 18
For the first time in school history we will be hosting a double-header on our athletic field on Tuesday, September 18. At 4:45 our girls’ soccer team will host Bert Church in the Rocky View League season opener. Following that game, the Cowboys will be hosting Bow Valley, under the lights, in the home league opener at 7:00. Come out and enjoy two exciting games.

VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Senior Girls’ Volleyball Team began their week with a successful first league game against Bert Church High School. They won three straight games in this first competition. This past weekend the team participated in the 2012 Dinos Volleyball High School Tournament. In their pool were: William Aberhart and Chinook (from Lethbridge), two of the top 4A volleyball teams in the province and Strathmore. They beat Strathmore but lost to the 4A schools. They did very well against Aberhart and Chinook. Because the team placed 3rd in the pool, they played in the Consolation Finals. Their first game was against Sturgeon, who they handily beat in two games. Their next competitor was Lord Beaverbrook, and once again they easily won in two games. In the Consolation Championship, the Lady Lakers played against George McDougall. In a hard fought competition, the team won in two straight games and won the Consolation Final. Outstanding effort was exhibited by all players. The next game for the Lady Lakers will be at Chestermere, Wednesday, September 19, at 7:00 against Cochran

VARSITY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
The Varsity Boys team played their first league game on Wednesday, against the Bert Church Chargers. Although they put up a good fight with such a young squad (only 4 returning players), the Lakers were defeated in 4 sets. Regardless of the loss, the team shows a lot of potential, and should be a team to contend with by the end of the season. Veteran players Drake Bruney, Craig Douthwright, Blake Smith and Lanny Scmidt were great leaders throughout the game, showing by example and stepping up to the challenge. The Lakers next game is this Wednesday at Cochrane High School, followed up with the Bowness Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

COWBOYS FOOTBALL
The Cowboys had a tough outing at Springbank on Friday, losing 36-0. The first quarter was a tough one for the team and the boys were never able to get back into the game. The boys did not give up a score in the second half so that was good, however, they need to have a better start. This week the Cowboys host Bow Valley on Tuesday and Mc Dougall on Friday. Both games are under the lights at 7:00.

KICKOFF BBQ/ SILENT AUCTION SEPTEMBER 20
This Thursday the Cowboys host their 10th annual KICKOFF BBQ and SILENT AUCTION. It starts at 6:00. For $6 you will get a great meal and have the opportunity to bid on a number of silent auction items. The event is open to anyone. Buy a ticket from any player or just show up. This will take place in the social area.

GOLF DIVISIONAL RESULTS
In the girls’ comepetition Aimee Wilson finished 5th and the team finished 3rd, winning the bronze. The team did not qualify to go to zones. In the boys’ competition Taylor Stockbuger lead the way, followed closely by Ty Kosteinski, shooting 84 and 85 respectively. They also finished 3rd as a team. On a side note Jacob Stewart was tied for 29th place at the Alberta Open going into the final round, shooting 78 and 76. The following students will participate in the South Central Zone Championships this Thursday, in Strathmore: Jacob Stewart, Taylor Stockburger ,      Ty Kotelinski, Josh Antonishyn and Taylor Monkman. Best of luck.

JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The JV girls first game against Bert Church was a bit rough at first as it took a few points to shake off the nerves, however, after all was said and done the girls showed great character and poise on the court. Consistent improvement throughout the game was a great sign for the future of this season. If this keeps up until divisionals the girls will be more than ready to compete at a high level. We are looking forward to the next game and the next challenge for these dedicated young women, at home on Wednesday at 5:30.

JV BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The JV Boys opened their season last week against Bert Church, at home. Coach Mogck was pleased with the effort despite losing 3 games to 1. She believes the team has a great deal of potential, despite its youth. We are pleased to have a JV team this year as we did not field a team last year. This week the boys travel to Cochrane to take on the Cobras on Wednesday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
The Senior Girls’ varsity soccer team had a tough loss in their season opener but rebounded with a great game against Bow Valley. Anja Meier scored the lone goal to give the team a 1-1 draw. Our players on defense worked hard and kept us in the game. Excellent work ladies. The girls host Bert Church on Tuesday at 4:45 and travel to Mc Dougall on Thursday.

[box]ATHLETE OF THE WEEK BLAKE SMITH
Blake Smith

Co-captain Blake Smith, played a good first match for the Sr. Boys Volleyball team last Wednesday against the Bert Church Chargers.
