Highwood Raider of the Week

Hailing from Chestermere, Michaela Tessemaker plays defense for the Highwood Raiders. At the age of four, Michaela began skating. Her first few years on skates was in the sport of figure skating. However, after experiencing the game of hockey with her dad, Michaela fell in love with the sport and swapped her figure skates for hockey skates. She played boys hockey, being the only girl on her team, with Chestermere minor hockey association for her first 6 years of hockey. She continued her career playing four years with the Storm, a female hockey team out of Strathmore, Alberta. Michaela’s favorite hockey memory was when her Strathmore girls’ team travelled to Kelowna, B.C. to participate in the International Children’s Games. Her love for the sport is only matched by the friends she has made while playing hockey. Michaela’s focus for this season is to be prepared and competitive for the Mac’s Midget tournament in December. Upon graduating in 2015, Michaela hopes to further her education obtaining a Bachelor of Science.
The Raiders came home from their Edmonton road trip with one win and one loss. Next home game is Nov. 17, 11:30 a.m., at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Center in High River.
