Kids Play with Green Thumbs

Child Link Centre Programs

CHESTERMERE – Kids are naturally inquisitive and can often ask the most unique questions, for example: where babies come from? Why is the sky blue? Why does Daddy always fall asleep on the couch? They’re inquisitive and continually learning through their experience and the activities they get involved in. And for the parents, they are often looking for ways to keep the kids busy, interested and learning about all kinds of things? I present to you today, an opportunity to do just that. A chance for you and your child/children to bond, learn about nature and perhaps give them a sense of responsibility. The Chestermere Parent Link Centre offers many free programs to parents and their children; the program featured today is called MY GREEN THUMB. It’s designed for preschool aged kids and it will give children exposure to growing a vegetable gardening. The parent Link Centre has a small plot at the Community Garden just minutes from Chestermere on Highway 791. The kids will be shown how to weed, cultivate, care for, and then for the big payoff, – harvesting the fruits of their labour. Aia Clamp, a Program Facilitator with the Parent Link Centre says, “It really gives the kids a one on one with the parents”. She adds, “Even if the child loses interest and needs a change of activity, there is a sandbox and a slide to occupy their busy minds and bodies”. In addition, the organizers have a time set aside for one and all to do a creative craft. MY GREEN THUMB is already underway and the next outing is August 27th. It happens every Monday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM however on August 27th it is a Bonus Day where they will also have the infamous “MEET ME AT THE PARK”; and so there will be an extra hour on the program (11 AM to 3 PM). Aia predicts this year the Garden Harvest will begin on September 17th. Please be sure to sign you and your child up for this exciting and informative program.
