On September 28, 2012 a short time before 1:00 a.m. an off duty Chestermere firefighter reported to the Chestermere Fire Department that an unknown male was observed in Chestermere Lake. He was noted in the lake and it was not known if he came out. The acting Fire Captain relayed this information to the Chestermere RCMP.
Chestermere RCMP and Chestermere Fire Dept. personnel responded immediately to John Peake Park and began a search together along the shore line. Emergency Medical Service personnel (EMS) arrived on scene shortly thereafter to assist. At one point “STARS” helicopter was requested and attended utilizing a large flood light. A RCMP Police Service Dog team was called in to attempt to locate a track on shore. Strathmore Fire & Rescue was requested and arrived on scene to conduct grid patrols in the north end of the lake. After an extensive search and utilization of all available resources, the search was called off. It is felt this male had exited the lake. The identity of the man in the lake is yet to be determined.
