CHESTERMERE – The 4th Annual Chestermere Loop Around The Lake took place on Sunday September 16. Bernie Maillot, the race organizer, was pleased with the turn out for the annual run which for the first time added a ½ marathon to the race. Bernie wanted to mention some of the people who helped out in the race but the list was steadily growing with every discussion, so he has decided to post an ad in the paper. There are others that still need to be mentioned starting with all the race volunteers and participants for without them, the show couldn’t go on. Of course good old Mother Nature sure receives a pat on the back for delivering a near perfect day for running. There was also a tribute to Jim Johnson (a good friend and colleague of Bernie’s) that lost his life to a brain tumour this past year. There was a moment of silence before each of the races began and Jim’s name will be worn on the Loop Around the lake T-shirts for the next 6 years.
There is an estimated $7000 in proceeds that will go to the Chestermere Public Library.
Although anyone who entered the race is a winner and we would love to list all of the participants, there is just not enough room. You can check out all of the race results in great detail at www.looparoundthelake.ca
