People say that children are our future. While this is true, I think it is also fair to say that seniors have created the future that these young people will step into. They have contributed to our community, families, places of work, and our country as a whole. They continue to share their time and wisdom while acting as our advisors, our mentors and many times, our community leaders. Monday, October 1st, National Seniors Day is a chance to celebrate these contributions.
Let us take this opportunity to reflect on the seniors that have impacted our lives and the lives of our loved ones. I challenge you to go a step further and do something that would let the seniors in your life know what they mean to you. Taking the time to send some flowers, stop in for coffee, send a thank-you card, or make a phone call to let them know that you are grateful for the role they play in your life.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every senior for the contributions you make to our community, in big and small ways. The gifts that you share with friends, family and neighbours are greatly appreciated. Happy Seniors’ Day!
