New Town Art Impressive

CHESTERMERE – There is a new piece of art at the south end of West Chestermere Drive. The shiny art piece is highly noticeable and adds to the beautiful backdrop of the lake. Not only is the piece in a great location, it gives you the opportunity to view the lake and the canal from a different viewpoint. The impressive 3 meter high metal structure represents a stand of a dozen wheat stalks (Alberta wheat I suspect). The Chestermere Urban Beautification Committee commissioned the art from artist Illarion Gallant, an artist from British Columbia. Gallant was the same artist who designed and created the boat at Millenium Park on East Chestermere Drive. If you look around you may find there are many other “artful” pieces about the town. For example a couple of unique bike racks come to mind. One set of the bike racks are at Sunset Park and the other is at Anniversary Park near the skateboard park. Although they were not installed as art projects, they certainly could be; after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
