CHESTERMERE – The Oktoberfest Fundraiser for the Chestermere United Way was held on Saturday, October 13 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre and although the event didn’t sell out like the previous year, the group still managed to raise approximately $8,500 from the two auctions, ticket and bar sales. Kim Mikkelson, one of the party organizers, indicated that everyone seemed to have a great time. They received excellent feedback regarding the change in the layout of the room and with having the two liquor bar windows that were set up this year, the line ups were minimal. With the smaller number of people attending this year it also allowed for a bit more socializing amongst the crowd and allowed for a better viewing of the auction items. Prizes were awarded for the best dressed male and female costumes at the party, as well there lots of people who took advantage of getting a ride home in one of the limos provided by Mountain View Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
On behalf of the organizing committee, Mikkelson would like to thank ALL the volunteers that helped organize the event, volunteers that assisted the day of the event, all of the businesses and families that donated to the event for both of the auctions. Before this event the Chestermere United Way Campaign had raised over $26,000 so here is another $8,500 into the pot; of which all of the funds will stay right here in Chestermere.
