Right On Ride On

Camp Chestermere Road Warriors

CHESTERMERE – They say nothing last forever and just like many of the things that were in Chestermere back in the day there is a time when you need to rebuild. Around the year 2000 the directors at the time saw that the original lodge at Camp Chestermere was in need of a massive amount of repair and didn’t stand up to the building safety codes, so they set out on a mission to do something about it. For starters the Camp sold a small piece of land and with that money designed and started to build a new lodge. The money was a great beginning and paid for about half of the new lodge; the balance would have to be financed. “The new lodge, just completed this year, is terrific and suits our needs perfectly but now it’s time to pay off the remainder” said Camp Chestermere’s Chairman of the Board, Georges LeBlanc. The camp rents out their facility for several weeks to schools and other organizations which helps out immensely in making payments. There are several fundraising events for this and that but Georges thought it may be better if they had a specific part of the project to focus on. With that they advertised for a ROAD WARRIORS weekend ride to Wayne Alberta. Wayne I’m told is like a ghost town and is located in the badlands near Drumheller. Once the riders reach their destination they will be treated to a variety of snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic of course) at the Last Chance Saloon. They’ll ride back and return about 4:00 PM for a family Bar B Q at the Camp where there will also be several door prizes and a silent auction. Right now they don’t have too many riders signed up but Georges says the biker community often looks to see what the weather is predicted to do and often turns up in droves the day of the event. This sounds like a smooth ride; Georges has taken every precaution having 2 way communications with the police to block the roads to and from Chestermere. If you would like more information or would like to sign up, please contact the camp office at 403-272-6030 or for route information call Georges at 403 880 4373. Have a good ride everyone, I think that’s Ride On!
