Spring Diet Clean-Up

With spring right around the corner, many of you may be getting rid of junk around the house that has accumulated over the winter and preparing for the warmer months ahead. Just as you spring clean your home, you may also want to consider spring cleaning your diet.
Chances are you’ve also been turning to some comfort foods over the cooler months that pack in just a few too many calories now that you’re looking to get beach-body ready for the summer.
By tossing out these items and replacing them with new, lighter seasonal fare, you can do your body good while livening up your diet.
Let’s have a quick look at some of the important foods to consider.
Replace Starch-Heavy Foods With Fruit
The very first exchange that you should make with your diet is tossing some of the starch-heavy foods such as grains, cereals, and breads, and opting for fruit instead. While fruit does contain some natural sugars, it’s also high in fiber so won’t cause the blood sugar response that other simple sugar containing foods would.
What’s more is that you can eat far more bulk with fresh fruits than you can with the calorie dense grains, so your chances of feeling full on fewer calories are much greater.
Fruit is full of antioxidants and vitamins as well, so will definitely help you achieve optimal health.
Swap Pasta For Squash
The next quick switch that you can make is to replace pasta for squash instead. Pasta is also carb and calorie heavy, and will pack on the weight in a hurry if you’re not careful.
Instead, exchange your pasta for some squash. Squash is much lower in calories and will help to add bulk to the diet, filling you up fast.
Choose spaghetti squash in particular if you want to mimic eating a plate of pasta.
Trade Beef For Fresh Fish
On the protein side of things, if you’ve been feasting on beef all winter long, consider lightening up your protein selection by going for some fresh fish instead. Fresh fish and seafood is a very high quality source of protein and will also provide some healthy fats as well, depending on the variety that you choose.
If the fish or seafood isn’t high in fat, then the calorie count is very low, making it ideal for your fat loss goals.
Choose a mixture of higher fat seafood and fish varieties along with lower fat varieties for best balance.
Lose Peas And Add Asparagus
Finally, when assessing your vegetable intake, make the decision to lose any peas and corn you’re eating and have some asparagus instead. Asparagus is a great spring time vegetable that’s low in calories and high in nutrients, so will help promote optimal health and weight loss.
Asparagus is also very fast and easy to prepare, so you really can’t go wrong with this food.
So there you have a few things that you should do to get started with your spring diet clean-up. Keep these in mind and you can feel confident that you’ll be on your way to your best body yet.
