Strathmore– Although the skies were cloudy for the Annual Emergency Services Charity Golf Tournament it was a beautiful day for fundraising at the Strathmore Golf Club. And the winner is the Strathmore Regional Victim Services Society (SRVSS).
SRVSS is celebrating their 15th anniversary for helping victims in crisis situations. This was the 5th annual fundraising golf tournament organized by the SRVSS team. The tournament was sold out this year with 144 golfers participating in a silent auction, 50/50 draw, and chipping and putting contests. The Global Training Centre in Strathmore stepped up to sponsor the event. The silent auction featured some amazing items such as; a guitar signed by The Rolling Stones, a portrait of Phil Michelson and another of Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, as well, an astonishing book of photos taken by our Premier Allison Redford. Many other items like Bar-B-Que’s, leather jackets and an array of gift certificates donned the walls of the clubhouse hallway. Lesley Hering from SRVSS said last year’s tournament was a success and expects this year’s event to be even better. UPDATE: THE GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISED APPROXIMATLEY $12,000 THIS YEAR. About 80% of the proceeds will go to SRVSS and the remainder to another charity.
The Emergency Services Charity Golf Tournament comprises members of the

“No one expects to be affected by crime or tragedy” says Lesley “and this is where our volunteers step in and help victims gain some control back into their lives”.
Although SRVSS is based in Strathmore, the towns of Chestermere and Gleichen are also provided support to adults and children in crisis situations. SRVSS are always looking for more caring, compassionate volunteers to join them. The rewards of helping others are tremendous.
Lesley and her team are in the preliminary stages of preparing for another fundraising event in Gleichen which could happen in the fall. The Anchor will provide more information when it becomes available.
