CHESTERMERE – On Sunday Jan. 29, 2012 at 2:37 a.m., the Chestermere RCMP were dispatched to an alarm at the Chestermere Sobey’s Liquor Store.
Upon arrival, police discovered that the front of the building was extensively damaged, as someone had attempted to break into the store using a vehicle as a ram. Access was not gained.
Surveillance video later confirmed that a truck was forcibly backed into the store front several times near the store’s entrance.
Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry said that they could only account for two people being involved in the incident, one being the driver of the vehicle and the second standing outside of the vehicle giving the driver direction to back into the building.
The surveillance video could not provide an accurate description of the suspects, so the RCMP are hoping that witnesses will come forward to provide assistance in identifying those involved.
The truck is believed to be an older model Ford F-350, dark in color, a regular cab single axle truck with a tool box in the back. The truck appeared to have a full length truck box and amber lights on the roof.
Significant damage was done to both the exterior and interior of the liquor store. Representatives of Sobey’s were not able to comment on the full extent or cost of the damage at press time.
