CHESTERMERE – On December 15th the West Creek Pub is celebrating its 11th birthday and they having a party during the entire day. After 11 years the pub is emerging into a happenin’ place to be and they have introduced a new menu. Now you just can’t change a menu willy-nilly on the spur of the moment. No, there is a careful thought process involved and owner/operator Deiter Gesell and his wife Jill, say they are very pleased with the new menu and they think the customers are going to be blown away with the selection and the taste. Gesell has an amazing cook who prepares EVERYTHING from scratch, as well he has brought in a smoker (for smoking meat, not cigarettes) and he claims the Hickory Smoked Baby Back Ribs are the most tender and tastiest you’ll find anywhere. Nestled within his new menu features something you may not find anywhere north of the 49th and that would be alligator. Yes he has 2 menu items – alligator bites and alligator gumbo which you may be surprised how delicious this could be. Also, one of my favourite New Orleans specials is the deep fried pickles; oh so scrumptious. Gesell said he once had a couple of guys from Texas who just had lunch at the pub, no sooner did they finish eating when they called their wives and told them that they had just had the best burger they have ever had. This Gesell is because they grind their own meat and use only the best sirloin for their burgers; “You just can’t skimp on quality” says Gesell.
Now getting back to the party on December 15th; West Creek Pub is having $2.99 drink specials all day, live entertainment and a number of door prizes for the customers. Gesell is getting up extra early and is going to roast a pig which will be ready about 2:00 PM and so, there is going to be FREE roast pig and smoked beans while supplies last. Don’t miss this; it’s going to be a PARTY!!
There are 2 sides to the pub; one side is your pub with several big screen TV’s usually tuned to sports channels, a pool table, a few video game machines and 9 VLT’s. On the other side is a quaint little cosy restaurant separated by a warm romantic two-way fireplace. This family friendly delightful space is appropriately named Jack’s Westside Grill offering the same menu; same great service. Jack’s Westside Grill has their own specials on Thursdays with a wing night for families.
At 9:00 PM the wall between the two sections is opened up to enlarge the pub and create an energetic atmosphere.
Locally owned and operated, Gesell has given back to the community about $100,000 from fundraising events from soccer, the Chestermere Adam II Teams, other hockey Teams, dances and cancer fund raising events over the years.
The West Creek Pub has live bands about every 6 weeks (some being local bands), comedy night once a month and Karaoke every Friday night with Diva Deb. Their latest comedy night featured 2 comedians and a complete dinner for just $25. They will also cater for you wedding or Christmas parties and can arrange a wonderful buffet dinner for you and your guests.
Gesell tells me when the pub first opened he saw the then 18 year olds coming in to the pub, and now they are bring their children into Jack’s Westside Grill. Does that make you feel old Deiter? – No comment.
