Wildrose leader makes a stop locally

Danielle Smith attends meet and greet Feb. 9

CHESTERMERE – Wildrose party leader Danielle Smith made a stop in Chestermere this past week to address residents and show her support for the local representative, Bruce McAllister.
A couple hundred people joined Smith for a few hours at Lakeside Golf Club on Feb. 9 for wine, cheese and chocolate. Smith made a short address to the crowd, and gave her thoughts on the newly released budget and the current state of affairs in the province overall.
She spoke mostly about her disapproval of the current government’s spending, how she believes the “Alberta Advantage” is still the best slogan for the province if used the right way, and how she hopes that people will support change in the next election.
Smith also made sure to comment on Bruce McAllister as the Chestermere – Rocky view representative.
“I can’t think of a more perfect candidate for this riding,” Smith said of McAllister. “It is exciting to have Bruce on the team.”
She said that because McAllister lives in the community and has a history in the area, that he is passionate about managing the resources and he knows what people would like to see change.
“The role of the television host be the advocate on behalf of the viewer,” Smith said, speaking of McAllister’s previous career on TV. “He played that role for so long in the media, so you can be assured that he’s going to be a strong advocate for Chestermere and for the Wildrose caucus.”
Smith said that she was impressed by the turnout, saying that she has had the pleasure of seeing the same kind of support in other ridings.
“What we are seeing across the province is something pretty amazing,” she said. “Not only do you see this kind of incredible turnout here tonight, this is the kind of thing we’re seeing all over the province.
“People are really excited. They’re excited about our party and what we have to offer, and they are excited for change.”
Smith and McAllister made themselves available for questions, where they talked about the budget further, how Wildrose could help students in post secondary, and undoubtedly, when the election might be.

”We have been delivered a fixed election window, so the election could be anytime between now and May 31,” she said. “We thought there would be something in the budget that would provoke an early election call, but it doesn’t appear to be so.
“The most likely day would be March 26…We’re getting pretty confident that that is the date we are looking for.”
