CHESTERMERE – For anyone who has always wanted to try their hand at a restoration project but just couldn’t find the time or the funds to purchase the perfect clunker to work on, the Chestermere Historical Foundation’s most recent endeavor may be perfect for you.
For the past couple of months, the dedicated group of history fanatics have been busy cleaning and dissembling Chestermere’s first ever fire truck, which was in used by the local volunteer fire department from the late 60’s until 1981.
The group has also been busy fundraising and looking for the parts that are necessary to assist in the completion of the restoration.
They meet every Thursday evening for that they call the “Truck Workshop.” Last Thursday, they removed the front hood and worked on installing the new wheel rims.
The group is actively seeking new volunteers to help with the project, whether it’s someone with restoration experience, someone who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty, or someone who is willing to donate a few bucks to the cause.
MJ Towing Ltd. Is involved with the restoration project, and has agreed to pick up scrap cars and trucks (up to one ton.) Half of the profit from the scrap collection will be given back to the foundation to be used to restore the original fire truck.
Call MJ Towing at 403-975-9504 to arrange for pickups.
