CHESTERMERE – For anyone who received a new iPhone or iPad for Christmas but still hasn’t quite figured out how it works, the Yacht Club is hosting a fun, informal evening to hopefully get everyone a little more educated.

CYC Manager Fie Hulsker that it is not a course or seminar, but just a simple gathering together of anyone who would like to learn about or share their knowledge of their devices.

“This will be a no stress session, no super techie people showing us how easy it all is, just a bunch of us trying to figure it out together over coffee,” Hulsker said. “I got the iPad 2 for Christmas and I watched one of my board members taking down the minutes of one of our meetings on hers.

“She showed me an app, Pages, that I immediately put to use. She had all sorts of tips and good recommendations, and that is what started the idea.”

Hulsker said that the session is free of charge, and will be held on Tuesday, March 20.

“We plan to run it from 7 p.m. until the coffee runs out, and it is just scheduled for the one evening,” she said. “Any tablet device, mp3 player, or phone is welcome, we will figure it out.”

Anyone interested in attending the session is asked to RSVP to Fie at 403-272-3300.

Besides getting together to get educated, Hulsker said it will be a good opportunity for members of the community to come and check out the brand new clubhouse, which was just finished this past year.

“It is a wonderful building,” she said. “The hope is that once people are familiar with the club setting, that they might be interested in taking sailing lessons, or register their children or grandchildren in our summer sailing school.

“Anyone can join the Yacht Club. The fees are modest and membership gives a reduced rate on all our courses we offer.”

For those who are interested in checking out the building but might not need the tech support, the CYC will be hosting open houses every weekend in May. Anyone is welcome to stop by, have a coffee and receive a tour of the new clubhouse.

The CYC’s sailing school dates, courses and prices are now available for the coming season, and can be found online at www.cyc.ab.ca.
