CHESTERMERE – With spring fast approaching, daylight hours getting longer, there is still a good reason to curl up with a good book or two. The Chestermere Public Library is once again holding their 2013 Spring Reading Program which begins on March 4th and goes through to April 6th. If you haven’t heard of it before let me explain. This year they are trying something a little different where they are inviting everyone with a library card to register for the spring reading program and to log their minutes of reading. In previous years only those individuals from 0 to 11 years old were eligible to enter.
The Library is having a kick-off party on Saturday, March 2nd from 1:00 to 2:00 PM and everyone is invited. If you’re not already a member this would be an ideal time to sign up for a Library Card and check out the facility and everything they have to offer. Following the kick-off, stick around for a family movie presentation called “Hotel Transylvania” at 2:00 PM.
Last year over 200 children registered and logged almost 60,000 minutes of reading. Let’s see this program continue to grow.
All participants in the reading program will track their reading time by completing the logs and returning them to the library. Ballots to enter for prizes are given out every time you visit the library. The more you visit the library, the better your chances of winning and don’t forget this year there are prizes for teens and adults also.
Library memberships are required so hurry in and sign up if you are not already a library card holder.
Prize drawing will take place on Monday, April 8th and the winners will be notified the same day.
The Library is looking to local businesses to donate a few prizes to the participants or accepting any monetary donations. For their generosity local businesses can look forward to having their name and prizes on display at the library, as well their company name and logo in the sign up packages and on the Chestermere Public Library website. If you are interested in contributing to the Library, you can do so by calling 403-272-9025 or email them at debbi@chestermerepubliclibrary.com .
