CHESTERMERE – Would you like to join the journey? As many of you may know the St. Gabriel’s Parish has been celebrating its weekend Masses at the St. Gabriel’s the Archangels school gym for nearly 8 years and last year they took the first steps to building a new church in Chestermere. This is no small undertaking and requires a number of people to get involved with fundraising, structure design and construction. These functions are just a few of the initial steps required to building a church and it may seem overwhelming at times, it is an exciting journey. The fun journey begins with a fundraising event on Friday, June 7th, 2013, which is not that far away.
There are 2 parts to this incredible journey. The first part of that voyage is called Angels on High and it begins with a fundraising dinner on Friday, June 7, 2013 at St. Gabriel the Archangels School gym. Tickets to the dinner are $50 per person or $350 for a table of 8. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 to 6:30 PM followed by dinner at 6:30 and a then speaker at 7:30 PM. Then there is entertainment by the Keister Family Fiddlers and a suspenseful silent auction. And take note that there is free childcare provided so the parents attending the event can enjoy the evening knowing their children are being well cared for. Dress is business casual.
Now, the second part of the Angels on High journey is an exciting mountain scramble consisting of priests and laypeople with an ultimate goal of raising $50,000 towards building the St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Chestermere. The climb is going to take place at Mount Temple, the second highest mountain in Banff National Park which its elevation is 3,544 m (11,627 feet). The journey is tentatively set for August 12th, 2013. This is obviously and all day event which Pastor John Nemanic says will take about 6 hours to reach the summit.
So now you’ll want to know how you can be part of the journey. Below are several ways:
- Donate silent auction items and/or offer corporate sponsors for the dinner.
- Use your points in customer loyalty programs like Air Miles, Aeroplan, Petro Points, Optimum Points, HBC reward points for auction items.
- Ask your family, employers, friends or acquaintances if they are able to donate prizes.
- Contact a company that may want to become an Angels on High sponsor.
- Pledge a climber or make a donation – pledge sheet and tax receipts are available
- Sign up to join the journey and climb Mount Temple
- Become a corporate sponsor (packages available)
- Attend the fundraising dinner on June 7th, 2013
- Volunteer your time to help at one of the events
