Baking Competition Adds New Contests

The Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon is pleased to have continued sponsorship from National Country Fair Baking Contests
for the Red Ribbon Competition Sept 13th and 14th, 2013. They offer great prizes (up to $25 for first place and $10-$20 for 2nd place), rosette ribbons for the winners, recipe booklets and store coupons for public visitors to the Chestermere Country Fair on Saturday. First place winners here in Chestermere are eligible to move up and compete for National Awards in Robin Hood, Fleischmann’s and Crisco contests judged later in the fall.
Baking failures plague your kitchen? Here’s a tip. Baking in Alberta is a challenge due to our altitude so cut back baking powder, whip those egg whites to firm but not stiff peaks, and add a bit of extra flour to your recipe. Confusing? New this year are prizes awarded for products using Fleischmann’s Baking Powder, Fleischmann’s Corn Starch, and Crown Corn Syrup. Enter your ‘Best Short Bread cookie’ and/or ‘Best Homemade Loaf Cake’ using one of those products. Tenderflake is not sponsoring this year, but Red Ribbon is tentatively offering EPCOR prizes for best pies and Crisco is still sponsoring two prizes ($25 and $10) for best tarts.
