“What does bofo* mean?” Yes, that might well have been one of the Pub Quiz Questions last Tuesday at ‘Beer for Books, a Chestermere Library fundraiser. And Steve King, the emcee kept the sold out crowd busy for nearly two hours with a selection of both obscure and easy to answer questions. Brains were burning and no cheating with ‘i’ type devices was allowed!
Thanks to Bojan Cerovsek at North Tap House for hosting this first of its kind fundraiser for the Town of Chestermere Public Library. The action started after a delicious buffet supper. One hundred and three attendees were put to the task of completing five different quiz sheets, including two with pictures. Who knew those guys with white gloves, straining at levers were cutting French fries? And how about that old lady in the hat–Margaret Atwood you say? How many moose were introduced to Newfoundland and when ? Oh my. (four in 1894). The writers of questions certainly put the grey-matter to a stiff test. Out of a total of 70 points many teams scored in the high 40s, but the winning team “The Model Ps” scored 55 to take 1st place. Second place was a tie with ‘Densa Society” and “Rowdy Rotarians” both scoring 49. The prize for the most imaginative name for a team was won by the ‘Chicks with Dic…tionaries.” Other names like “The Dewey Decimals,” “Bibliophiles,” “Grey Matter,” and “J is for Genius” showed imagination and the sense of fun and competition that everyone brought to the evening. The 50/50 was worth $122.50. Sponsors contributing or providing prizes were Print Calgary, M & M Chestermere, Caribbean Sun, Up and Running Technology, Starbucks, Chestermere Lions Club, Tim Hortons Chestermere, Lakeshore Esthetics and Tanning, and La Vie Nail and Spa.
The Town of Chestermere Library Board, made up of Chair Marilyn King, and members Noelle Trung, Bill Peddlesden, Stephen King, Guprit Billing, Hash Vara and Lennox Gomes, is very happy with the $2000 profit from the evening–which of course goes to support services at our one and only Town of Chestermere cultural institution! And the Board d very much appreciate the community support for this event and the enthusiasm with which it was greeted. See you next year!
