We love our wheels, any kind that make getting around easier and faster, from the wheels we wear on our feet to the wheels that are engine powered.
The Chestermere Car Nutz Club takes this love of the wheel to a higher notch, meeting every 3rd Tuesday of each month to socialize and share their stories of the wheel. This club which has been up and running now for about two years is responsible for hosting the Annual Show and Shine Show which is held at the Community Recreation Center during the Wakefest coming up July 27.
The Show and Shine Show which is for all car, truck and motorcycle enthusiasts whether they are proud owners or admirers brings in over 3000 spectators to the event. Models range from classic makes, to new or modified, sports cars and a growing representation of motorbikes. Whether it’s to see the newest and hottest or just a stroll down memory lane, the car show has it all.
In all 23 trophies will be awarded in categories such as Best in Show, Oldest Truck Best GM , Young Guns and Best Custom.
All monies raised from the show go to the club’s choice of charity, Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) as well as the Food for Thought breakfast program for Rockyview Schools of which they are one of the larger contributors.
Roy Spanko and Paul Graham , two of the club’s board members took time out to share information about their club last week. The annual dues are only $30 and a year end barbeque is held at club President Ron Piche’s acreage whose classy garage is a step back into time complete with an antique BA Petroleum Gas Pump and collectables that would surely delight the pair from “Canadian Pickers”.
Meetings are held at member’s homes and garages on a rotating basis. A web page is being planned in the near future as well.
Spanko whose pride and joy is an ’87 Grand National said the club of 18 is interested in attracting new members with fresh ideas and input. They plan to expand their presence in the area by participating in Landon Days the 21of July and hope to attract more car enthusiasts.
The Calgary area has 25 clubs while Strathmore sports its own as well. The Show and Shine events are hosted by clubs in various communities throughout southern Alberta .
If these lyrics fill you with nostalgia, or that “bubbly feeling” then this is another reason to check out the Show and Shine Event or better yet consider joining the guys from Car Nutz.
“I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396 Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor She’s waiting tonight down in the parking lot Outside the Seven-Eleven store.”
