Vernon, B.C. – Lieutenant Jon Carpino of Chestermere, Alberta was presented with the Platoon Commander’s Sword of Distinction at the final parade and sunset ceremony at Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre.
The sword is presented to the most deserving platoon commander or assistant platoon commander for distinguishing themselves in their outstanding performance and contribution to the vision of VACSTC as a Centre of Excellence for cadet training.
Criteria for this award include dress and deportment, conduct, leads by example, achievement, respect by peers, adherence to rules, regulation and policies and a commitment to the Canadian Cadet Movement.
Lt Carpino is an officer with 3125 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Chestermere.
During the summer, 1200 army, sea and air cadets from western Canada will have spent up to six weeks in the Okanagan Valley centre, expanding the training they receive at their home corps, developing new skills and forming friendships.
