Our students are off school for the entire week, but still have their final league basketball games. On Tuesday the girls host Bert Church and on Wednesday the boys travel to Airdrie to play the Chargers. After that most teams have some time off and will rest to be healthy for the playoffs.
JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
The JV.Lady Lakers were busy on the basketball courts last week. They travelled to Beiseker on Tuesday and played a solid game versus the Bandits. Carissa Ziegler led all scorers with 20 points and was outstanding under the boards. The Girls travelled to Canmore on Friday and took on four tough varsity teams in the Our Lady of the Snows Invitational Senior Girls Tournament. The team had a great time on and off the court and learned to play tough against the older and more physical senior squads. The girls only won one out of their four games but gained valuable experience that will help them as playoffs approach. The team has one game on Tuesday against Bert Church, at home, before they get to enjoy some time off.
JV BOYS’ BASKETBALL
This week the JV Lakers had a bye week in their league play. They did, however, have an exhibition game against Springbank. The Lakers started out slow and never really got much going until the 2 minute mark left in the 4th quarter. They won the game 54-52. The Lakers play their final league game this week against Bert Church, on Wednesday in Airdrie.
VARSITY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The Lady Lakers had a bye in league action, last week, and travelled to Edmonton to play in the Spruce Grove Tournament, one of the toughest in Alberta. Injuries continue to plague the team. On the weekend, we had 5 players unable to play, including 3 starters. The experience was still a good one for the team, as we had to play very tough, against such strong teams. Even though we lost all 3 games, the experience made our team tougher. As we get our players back we look forward to the playoff run, starting in two weeks. This Tuesday we finish our league season against the Bert Church Chargers. Game time is at 7:45. After that we have four days to rest and get healthy as we prepare for the Rocky View League Championship.
VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL
The Lakers travelled to Okotoks to compete in the Foothills Composite tournament. The first round saw the Lakers against the #4 3A team in the province, Crescent Heights. The Lakers came away with a 77-54 win. Charn Gill was named player of the game. In the semi-final a poor finish saw the Lakers lose 77-71 to Father Lacombe. Drake Bruney was named player of the game. In the bronze medal game the Lakers beat Brooks 97-80. Gill was named player of the game again with an amazing 12 three point shots and 38 points. The Lakers close out their regular season with a game in Airdrie, on Wednesday, against Bert Church.
