BOYS’ RUGBY
A hard fought battle between friendly arch rivals left Chestermere on the losing side, this past week. The score remained 10-7 for Strathmore for more than 2/3rds of the game. It was a tough match for both teams as they met head-on. Chestermere’s only try was scored by Wade Zimmerman, and converted by Cole Templeton, for a final score of 15-7. Strathmore scored in the final minutes to secure the win. Another difficult game will be played at home next week against Division 1 team Foothills Composite High School. Come on out and support your teams.

GIRLS’ RUGBY
Although the score didn’t show it there was a huge improvement from last week to this as team passing improved with the backs getting the ball to the wings a number of times and the forwards winning a number of opposition scrums. The three stars from the game were our captains Ryleigh Hamilton and Kyla Cochlan, along with Kyira Hartley. Nicki Soles had a great game with a last line of defense one-on-one tackle to stop a try. Lots of improvements were shown but the team still has a lot to work on. The girls are back on the pitch next Thursday as they host the always tough FCHS of Okotoks.

BOYS’ SOCCER
The first match of the season for boys soccer started off a bit rocky as the Lakers lost to Bow Valley 6-1.  The team was down 3-0 at the half  but had a stronger second half with senior Kris Reimer scoring a penalty shot. Rookies Lucky Sidhu and and Praneel Singh had a good showing with strong defensive efforts. The team will use this as a valuable learning experience and look to improve in their first home match against George McDougall.

TRACK AND FIELD
The track team is hard at work preparing for their season. If you are interested in track see Coach Schaller. The team is working towards the Rocky View Divisional meet to be held on May 14 with a goal of qualifying for zones and provincials.

BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK COLE TEMPLETON
Cole Templeton is having a great senior season. He has converted 4 tries, and scored twice for a total of 18 points this season so far, leading the team in points. Cole’s speed and toughness make him a formidable weapon for the team.

BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK LUCKY SIDHU
This is Lucky’s first time playing competitive soccer and has shown great improvement in just a few weeks time.  He played a strong defensive game against Bow Valley and made some key tackles to prevent scoring opportunities.

GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NICKI SOLES
Nicki Soles had a strong game on both sides of the ball, against Strathmore. She was solid all game at fullback with the ball and made many tackles on defense.
