September 2007 The Chestermere Regional Food Bank was launched by The Lion’s Club and other Community Members. Since that time the demands on the food bank grow each year. In 2012 over 130 families were supported by the food Bank.
Chestermere is a community that is often viewed as one that does not have social and economic. Unfortunately like all communities Chestermere is not sheltered by the needs in changing family design, job loss and other factors that lead families / individuals to rely on our Food Bank.
Funding for our Food Bank comes through Government grants, private donations, and casino funds (as of this year).
One of the greatest needs next to food and cash donations for food that the Food Bank is facing is space. Presently the space that the Food Bank is located is no longer to meet our needs. Food is not only stored in the Food Bank location but also in Board Members garages.
This Year our Mayor has put her support behind our cause. The Mayor’s Food Bank Food Drive and Fundraiser will take place June 14 and 15, 2013. The weekend will be launched with a “Rich Man Poor Man” dinner. Tickets are $20.00 each and will include a live band, live and silent auction. The big surprise is whether or not you will get a Rich Man dinner served by a Butler or self serve Poor Man dinner. Tickets can be purchased at Mo’s Liquor, M&M Meat Shop, The General Store or by calling 403- 248-9150.
Saturday June 15 there will be a Food and Cash Drive at Safeway’s. Food and Cash donations will graciously be accepted by Food Bank volunteers from 10 am – 4 pm.
If you are interested in volunteering for either event please call 403-248-9150.
