Collecting items that represent those olden days of school

Dear Editor,
Chestermere Historical Foundation was pleased to receive a small grant from United Way to provide educational sessions in 2014 to Prairie Waters students about what it was like to be in elementary school circa 1920s to 1940s. The grant monies will pay for genuine antique/collectable/vintage items related to early school days (these eventually will be on display at the school) and the purchases must be made before December 31 2013.
Before we go elsewhere to purchase, does anyone in Chestermere have any of these items for sale? A school chalkboard slate, old radio (kids listened to special Alta Gov’t school programs i.e. for music lessons), an old school desk from at least 20s or 30s, coal oil or kerosene lamp, antique lunch bucket or lard pail, genuine old scribblers. Or other items used by students in those days.
We appreciate the generosity of Heather Davies who has donated an old inkwell and stick pen, two of the items we have been seeking.  If you can think of any other items that would represent those olden days of attending school in the Chestermere area ( no, we can’t take a horse ) please let us know!   Go to our webpage and send an email to Contact Us. www.chestermerehistory.org
