The Formative 5 Coalition is invested in promoting the importance of Early Childhood Development. This is why they organized a fun play day open to children between the ages of 3-5 years old. The free event was held on November 20 at the Chestermere Rec Centre.
The Play Day was to celebrate National Child’s day by having an activity based, fun filled morning focused on the 5 domains of development. A child’s physical, social, cognitive, communicative and adaptive development will cover almost every aspect of their life during these exceedingly important years.
National Child Day is celebrated on November 20th each year. The date marks the occasion when Canada adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, spelling out the basic human rights for children and youth.
The Formative 5 Play Day was put on by the Formative 5 Coalition in partnership with the Parent Link Centre and with the significant help of many community members and agencies including: Mental Health, Healthy Families, Little Acorns Preschool, the Chestermere Library, Lakeridge Community Church, Christmas with Dignity and independent representatives from CSD Consultants and Discovery toys.
The Chestermere Public Library was on hand to launch a brand new program that they have geared toward preschool aged children and their families, providing them with a free library membership along with other goodies.
This was the first Formative 5 Play day held in Chestermere with the intention of more similar events in the future. Approximately 80 kids attended the first play day along with their parents, caregivers, grandparents and preschool teachers.
