Marihuana Grow Op Search Warrant Execution

On March 7, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the Chestermere RCMP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search Warrant at a residence located in the Lavender Link area of Chestermere, Alberta.  This search warrant was for the production of marihuana/possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking.  
The search warrant was carried out by members of the Chestermere RCMP Detachment assisted by members of the combined forces Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) Calgary based Green Team South.  
Upon entry to the residence there were no persons located inside. In the basement was a soil based hydroponic grow with over 75 plants seized at various stages of growth. The total value of the contained operation is approximately $96,000. The basement is fully equipped to support marihuana grows with high wattage lights, concealed rooms and various vents.  A male and female have been arrested in connection with this incident and charges are still pending as information is being gathered. 
An inspector from Alberta Health Services attended and declared the house unfit for human habitation.
The Chestermere RCMP members continue to have success in identifying and forming the necessary grounds to conduct search warrants on suspected grow operations. Marihuana grow operation search warrants have been identified as an annual priority within the Town of Chestermere and the assistance/information of the residents of Chestermere continues to be invaluable.
