Despite the fresh and heavy falling snow, the 1st annual Zombie Crusher was a huge success with dozens of living and undead zombies participating in the fun run on Saturday November. 02 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre Soccer Fields.
Sponsored by Chestermere Walks and Stepping Stones to Mental Health, the event was designed to get people out and moving while having some fun. Participants were encouraged to dress like a zombie and they had the opportunity to visit the zombie zone where volunteers from Chestermere’s Synergy Youth group were on hand to do frightful zombie make-up before the event.
The mercury may have been sitting below zero but that didn’t stop many of the runners from completing multiple laps around the fields in the deep snow. “Just because its winter, doesn’t mean we need to stop walking” says Vicki Klinger, Recreation Program Coordinator at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre. “It was everything I dreamed that the Chestermere Walks Community Walking Program would be – fun, fitness and social!”
Jorge, a new resident to Chestermere said he really enjoyed the event in spite of the fact he only moved here two weeks ago from the much warmer Mexico. “I have never done anything like this back home” said Jorge, of the Zombie Crusher. “I already love it here in Chestermere because it is so quiet and peaceful.”
Chestermere Walks is a community walking program that uses walking as a mechanism to engage residents and diverse cultures in ‘building a healthy community one step at a time’.

The zombie walk was great fun and we look forward to doing it again! I am sure it will become an annual event that gets bigger and better.
