While John Peake Park was host to the Waterfest Activities, the grounds at the Rec Centre were privy to the annual Show N’ Shine car show.
“It was typical Chestermere weather. We thought we would judge as quickly as we could and give out the trophies enabling people to get their fabulous cars home and out of any impending storm. As it turned out, after the incredible whirl winds that covered us all in brown dust, the day became warm, sunny and calm. We could say it was the quickest car show on record!”
We had about 350 cars at the gate and just over 300 registered for the trophy competition. There were winners for 22 categories with the BEST IN SHOW trophy going to Gary Griesbecht from Calgary with his 1932 Ford Rod Highboy Roadster.
The winner of the Car Nutz club award was Dave Pickering from Chestermere. An award was made to Keith McMann from Medicine Hat for his 2003 Yamaha V-Max motorbike. The bike was striking with murals done as a tribute to the troops but his helmet held a fascination for all painted to look like a skull.
Even with half a show we were able to support AARCS, Pound Rescue and the Food for Thought Program. T-shirts are still available from this year’s show. For photos and more info check the Chestermere car show facebook page.
The Historical Foundation also participated at the show and were able to bring out their 1952 Fire truck They are continuing to raise money for this restoration project throughout the rest of the year through raffles and the upcoming War Brides production in November.
