Last weekend local skaters travelled to Airdrie to participate in the Winter Icefest Open from Nov.22-24. The new Genesis Place arenas was home to the large figure skating competition and the Alberta Winter Games Run-offs which saw over 850 talented figure skaters of all ages.
The girls from Chestermere’s Ice Edge Skating Club all skated very well and were in the medals, including a Gold Medal in Gold Interpretive for 16 year old Ekaterina Sergeeva. Coaches Alex Sergeev and Sonya MacMillan are proud of all the girls and their hard work. According to Laura Grover, Airdrie did a great job of hosting the competition in their new arenas.
