‘Bloom’ is about more than just flowers strutting their stuff–it is all about communities being the best they can be. The criteria for judging a Community in Bloom entrant www.communitiesinbloom.ca includes a Heritage Conservation component, which is why the Town Streetscape Committee invited the Chestermere Historical Foundation to participate in the judging of our fair town all day Friday August 9th. And it is just a few days away! The other criteria are Tidiness ( the whole town, citizen yards, public areas, businesses), Environmental Action (recycling, composting our lake weeds etc), Ubran Forestry ( birth forests etc), Landscape (plantings, overall design), Floral Displays (originality, pots and public gardens, integration), Turf and Groundcover, and finally Community Involvement (fairs, fests, volunteerism and all events).
The Chestermere Historical Foundation will be with the judges as they view and learn about the newly installed Fresno Scraper public art on the pathway in the off leash park north of the library, the newly installed historical murals on Lift Station #10 from EPCOR, the New Horizon Library Gallery, and at the Western Irrigation display on the canal at the termination of West Chestermere Drive. CHF will discuss how the history of Chestermere is woven into and displayed in many areas of life in Chestermere.
Spruce up your yard, show your civic pride — this is about putting Chestermere on the map as a beautiful community in bloom and an oasis in the prairie. Watch for the judges as they tour the town August 9th. Give a wave and a smile – we all love Chestermere!
