On Sat. July 20th, 6 members of the climbing team for the “Angels on High” fundraiser climbed MT. Bourgeau in Banff National Park. The scrambled was one of the several already completed practice climbs for the up coming Mt. Temple scramble, scheduled for Aug. 12th. Saturday’s climb was the highest summit reached for most of those in the group. Team leader Kevin Papke guided the group to the summit. Everyone was a truly amazed by the experience and inspired with some of the most breathtaking views our country has to offer.
Angels on High is an exciting climb consisting of priests and laypeople with a goal to raise $50,000 towards the St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, here in Chestermere.
The adventure will take the team to the summit of Mt. Temple, the 2nd highest mountain in Banff National Park at 3544m (11,627ft).
To date this initiative has raised over $30,00 through the kickoff dinner/fundraiser held at St Gabriel’s on June 7th. It was such a remarkable success for its first fundraising initiative. Some other successes are the completion of a few mandatory scrambles like Mt. Yamnuska, Prairie View and Mt. Bourgeau, which were required climbs to ensure team members are capable of the task at hand. Members are also collecting pledges for the climb. Pledge forms are available at St. Gabriel or through any of the climbers. You can follow the progress on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Angels-on-High/.
