CHESTERMERE – “Dance like no one is watching”. Nope; not going to happen! In fact, there are 21 dancers in the Calgary Dance Express (CDE) that are about to dazzle you with a spectacular dance performance YOU won’t want to miss. The event is being held at the Chestermere Recreation Centre on March 2nd, 2013 and with every ticket includes a turkey dinner (how long has it been since your last home cooked turkey dinner?) silent auction and family dance.
The event starts at 5:30 PM and the dinner is served at 6:00. Tickets are $35 and kids 10 and under are just $15. You could also reserve a table of 8 for $250. Last year’s performance in Cheadle sold out and was so well received they have since felt the need to expand to a new location to accommodate more people.
If you or your business would like to donate an item for the silent auction, your generosity would be greatly appreciated. This is a great way to put your name out there for everyone to see your bigheartedness.
The Calgary Dance Express has 21 dancers (boys and girls) ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old. The group often performs for free at senior’s lodges, has also performed at the Mustard Seed, the Canada Day Celebration in Chestermere last year and almost anywhere else asked to “express” their talents.
The group performs Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Acrobatics Musical Theatre and Ballet; something for everyone’s taste.
Fundraising is continual and allows the group to travel around the globe every second year. This year the group will be heading off to the Hawaiian Islands in July. Two Chestermere dancers, 10 ½ year old Paige Gilmour and 12 year old Amy Alexander, are very excited to perform at Pearl Harbour on the USS Missouri Battleship on the 4th of July, the Polynesian Cultural Centre and the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. There is no rest for the enthusiastic girls as they will also have 2 performances on the Big Island but I’m sure they will still be able to take in many of the favourite attractions. The previous trip took the group to Disneyland and prior to that trip they went to France.
The CDE is a non-profit performance troupe and is currently practicing at a dance studio in Strathmore which is a central location for many of the dancers. There is no fee to join the dance group and it is open to anyone in Alberta, although most of the dancers are coming from the local region such as Calgary, Chestermere, Carseland, Strathmore, Lyalta and Gleichen.
Fundraising is done by every one of the dancers and their parents, from selling pizzas to casinos it’s a worthwhile endeavour that allows the kids to travel and experience so much from different cultures.
Don’t miss out on this spectacular dance and dinner – email CalgaryDanceExpress@xplornet.com for tickets.
If you know someone who may be interested in dancing, auditions for the Calgary Dance Express begin in September.
