There are less than two weeks left until the municipal election that will elect 6 Councillors with at least three of them being new. Interest is strong with 19 citizens putting their name forward for one of the six positions. The big question is how you, the voter, choose who to vote for? As of this writing there are 18 of the 19 candidates confirmed for the YELL All Candidates Forum at the Chestermere Rec Centre this Wednesday October 9th at 6pm. Details and some of the answers to the questions that will be asked will be at http://truesynergy.ca .
What are the issues that are foremost in the minds of the voters? Written questions will be accepted at the forum but there have been many indicators from talking to youth, social media and through questions that have been submitted to involved@truesynergy.ca . In a quest to complete its Vision “to become Alberta’s Oasis: the Recreation and Relaxation Capital”, work has begun to try to define the recreational future for Chestermere. Does the plan include a pool or a large recreational complex and what is the cost?
The type and pace of development has also been a subject of discussion. Is the phrase “cookie cutter” fair or accurate? What is the solution to the lake weeds? Are there enough things for youth to do in Chestermere? Has there been enough work to attract businesses?
There has also been some interest in how long the new candidates have lived in Chestermere and what their participation has been in council meetings and boards and committees. Recycling is on the minds of many and of course, taxes are part of the discussion.
The good news is that the candidates have been available at the recent Chestermere Library open house and continue to be available via email and websites available at http://truesynergy.ca , social media and of course the YELL All Candidates forum. It is a very interesting election; make sure your get involved and vote on October 21st!
